Building Yourself Up

We spend a great deal of time building up those around us – our family, our friends, our coworkers. Even the checkout girl at the grocery store if it looks like she’s having a bad day. But what about building yourself up? Don’t you deserve at least as much attention as those around you?

How To Gain Confidence In Your Own Abilities And Instincts

Gaining confidence in your own abilities and instincts is key to building yourself up and achieving your best potential. You need to trust yourself and your skill set in order to handle life’s challenges and make a positive impact in people’s lives. If you don’t have confidence in your own abilities, others won’t either, and you will always hold yourself back from reaching your best potentia. Therefore, it is vital you gain confidence in your own abilities and instincts to reach your greatest potential.

To gain more confidence in your own abilities, look back upon the successes you’ve had in your life. This can be doing well in a course, getting your first job, etc. Look back at these successes and realize that you have the ability for great accomplishments, even if you don’t think about them often. This can increase your confidence that you have what it takes to succeed and need to trust those instincts more.

Second, you need to be willing to try new tasks and activities. This will increase your skill set and grow your confidence in you handling a wide variety of situations and challenges. By successfully handling a new task well, you will gain confidence in your abilities and instincts to handle various situation.

Third, talk with family, friends, and colleagues about what you have done. You could mention that you’re doubting your abilities and are wondering if you can handle the situation. Chances are high they can remind you of your skills to handle challenges and that you’re up to the task. Sometimes, it can benefit us to hear from other people how much confidence they have in our abilities. Hearing it from an outside source will give you confidence that you have the instincts to handle various life situations.

Why Building Yourself Up Helps You To Grow As An Individual

In this world, there’s really only one true source that we can rely on to achieve our fullest potential: ourselves. We may have family, friends, and colleagues who can help us, but the only real control over what we achieve is over ourselves. Rely on yourself to achieve your greatest potential. No one else can force you to do the things that you’re capable of. We need to motivate ourselves to do it continuously, which means we must rely on ourselves to help us grow as individuals.

If we know we have a skill that can make a positive impact on our world, others may encourage us to use that skill, but only we have the power to actually do it. Therefore, it is vital that we rely on ourselves to get things done, take control of situations, improve ourselves as individuals, and really work to achieve our greatness.

It’s key that you attempt to do things for yourselves and learn from your mistakes. It’s also important to broaden your activities so that you learn new skills that can help you be more confident in new situations. Again, no one can really force you to take on these new challenges and tasks except for you.

It’s also important that you don’t always look to someone else to handle an unexpected challenge that arises. Achieving your own greatness means being able to handle unexpected situations, and there won’t always be someone else there. At times, you’ll be the only one who can make a real difference, which means you must be able to rely on yourself and your abilities. Being able to do so can help build yourself up as an individual and enable you to reach your greatest potential.

How To Encourage Yourself To Take On New Activities/Challenges

Almost everyone gets nervous when they take on a new challenge. Some may feel a sense of excitement, while others see it as more a sense of anxiety or dread. This latter group may attempt to avoid new challenges, but doing that will hinder your ability to build yourself up. It will prevent them from attaining new skills, new experiences, and a new sense of self-esteem and self-confidence. Therefore, if you’re part of that latter group, you have to encourage yourself to keep growing and building yourself up.

  1. Take a deep breath and relax. Don’t think that you have to do it perfectly or else something bad is going to happen. Most mistakes are forgivable, especially when you are trying something new. Mistakes should be considered “learning tools” that enable you to learn more about yourself, building yourself up, and essentially help you move closer to achieving your best potential.
  2. Look upon the new activity or challenge as something fun to test yourself. See how well you do, then reward yourself for the effort you put in, even if you didn’t do as well as expected. By going through the experience, you will grow as an individual.
  3. See the new activity or challenge as a “break” from the norm. You know you can do specific things in your field well. Now, you get to see what you can do with tasks that are not in your everyday activities. See the new challenge as a “vacation” from the ordinary and enjoy the experience. By seeing this new activity as a respite from the usual, you’ll enjoy the experience more, want to take on more activities or challenges more often, and be able to grow more as an individual and reach your best potential and greatness.
